Vertis
Vertis are a 3-piece Edinburgh/Fife based rock band who formed in September of 2008. The idea has always been to create unique and exciting music that is accessible and catchy.
See Through This - Vertis
Great solid introduction, good vocals come in and set a steady pace which feels like it could really go somewhere. Exceptionally tight sound recording and the band sound like they have been going a lot longer than 2 years. Enjoyable solid rock almost emo song, very reminiscent of "Jimmy Eat World". Wholly unconvinced by the step change near the end, a simple demonstration of their instrumental ability but not really necessary in the song
Without You - Vertis
Second song on their myspace page and an instant slowing of pace, shows the bands diversity. Going great until 1minute 30sec in and it kicks into a rather weekly recorded guitar solo, does nothing and perhaps simply a time filler, which is obviously unnecessary considering the length of the song at nearly 6 minutes. Second solo kicks in which much more strength and flair, oh yea that's what we like a bit of mad showing off. Great Vocals delivered by Alan slots them nicely into the talented bracket
In my Defence - Vertis
Nice upbeat Blink 182 sounding opening. Vocals on this track definitely sound a bit different, scottish twang definitely prevalent. Builds up to a great sing-a-long chorus vocally excellent and technically superb track, really fills your boots with excitement and makes you glad you trawl through the crap pub bands to find this little gem. Goes into mad instrumental around 4 minutes the usual end time to anytime song, like an outro for the smashing pumpkins but hell these guys just played an ace song let them go wild for a minute if they like, it's a definite crowd pleaser
Verdict
Any band that has a good looking website and some nicely put together tracks are obviously not your run of the mill garage band that wants to play a few beers in the back gigs. These guys have talent, a three piece with this much energy and ideas deserve to be going places. Great vocals from a male guitar playing lead singer is like finding a winning lottery ticket stuffed down the back of your couch. good solid line up of upcoming gigs in Dunfermline through March then off to Glasgow for April is a must for the calendar. Whilst their claims of unique sounds are slightly exaggerated they use a tried and tested formula for a decent solid rock band and the addition of some slight mad solo's and thrashing of instruments shows they have the confidence! They are massively deserved of a top slot 4 out of 5
