Riders of Rebus

This epic band hailing out of Manchester are a must for any indie fan. Creator Paul McNally hailing from Aberdeen was once part of the majorly successful band Then Came Music voted most successful new act by Forth Radio. Since moving to Manchester this collection of songs has been created and performed in many venues around the city. Having also performed a few year ago in Edinburgh at an Amnesty International gig his music recieved great critical acclaim and from the featured tracks you can understand why. Creatively this music stands above a lot of amatuer acts and whilst still playing occasionally in Manchester this act has unfortunately left the path of music to form a career in communications with the faceless man. Hopefully this will attract enough attention to tempt him back to music. Get in touch with your thoughts.

Riders of Rebus - Under the Lake

This song is hauntingly romantic with a great bass intro leading the way. Such a visual song with haunting yet sentimental feeling is rare and brings back memories of Joy Division at their best. Simplistic, enjoyable and atmospheric this song leaves the hairs on the back of your head standing up. Imagine walking through a dark forest with the moon shining down on a lake like the start to a good horror film. Good recording quality and great vocals, all tracks recorded performed by Paul McNally

Riders of Rebus - Komputa

Has anyone ever worked in a call centre? Paul obviously has. This Song is outrageous with attitude and swagger in abundance. Captures the mood of a menial service job with a catchy electro pop beat. Creatively brimming with different sounds, very experimental and completely opposite to the first track.

Rider of Rebus - You are the sun

Another electro pop offering which wouldnt be out of place on a sun soaked beach in Ibiza. Another example of the diversity of the artist showing the layering technique of sounds on top of other sounds building into a full blown experience. Gentle vocals guide you through this track like a spirit guide through your journey to ascension. Beautiful

VERDICT

Three tracks do not do this artist justice and having first hand seen a number of sets performed I can honestly say this artist is skilled at many different types of music that your bound to find one of his tracks enjoyable. Talent like this is wasted all too often and replaced by the next talent show winner. Lets hope he keeps at it and brings more tracks out of his technicoloured talent box.
