Miyagi

Track - Dragonfly

Miyagi are a five piece band from Edinburgh, with a long list of recommendations I played this record with cautious expectation and I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. A self proclaimed blend of Country, Surf and Funk they definitely a Beach Boys feel. Close your eyes and you could be in a mini-van on your way to the waves accompanied by 5 no doubt happy musicians. The track itself starts with a good tempo building up to the vocals which for me are the only slight distraction from the quality of the music, though this is hidden well with a number of harmonies. The music is linked together with strong instrumental interludes however it never really reaches the expected peak after a fast start. While the track is enjoyable it certainly isn't unique and might be too retro, sixties revisited for some.

Definitely worth the online download price and, from the amount of radio play this band has had, no doubt you will hear the song on your way to work one morning and smile thinking of a sunny sunday afternoon. Great online reviews for their live set and they can be seen at Henry´s cellar bar twice in September.

Check out their other tracks which for me sound very promising.

3 out of 5
