Meyatra
They describe them selves as “a duo with a thing for Throbbing Gristle- 'difficult' music that won’t fit with anything but on a boiling hot day it's strangely soothing! Unmissable I reckon…” this remains to be seen in my opinion for the electronic duo based in Edinburgh.
Indu - Meyatra
Upon hearing this dark sounding lofi industrial effort I was brought in by a solid beat and an interesting guitar riff, sounding like the worrying level while playing doom. I waited for something to happen in the entirety of this track but was denied, what the track had was good, but its what the track lacked that gave me the issues.
Breathe – Meyatra
Promising start to this one with an interesting reverberated drum loop which I didn’t expect to change much but this track was a lot more progressive than the last one and also seemed to have more than 1 distinctive part in the very dark guitar and brooding guitar sound. With a long guitar heavily effected and presumably under practiced guitar solo 4 minutes into this tracks length it may have been nice for a change but too loose in my opinion. The outro to me seemed like it was only put there for longevity for the track, but after listening to almost 7 minutes of this song I still can’t help but feel I was waiting for something.
Vulgar Sweet- Meyatra
Though in previous tracks I have been complaining about lack of direction of a song more in “Indu” than “Breathe” I like this track quite quickly just for being as weird as it is, though headphones may be the key, cutting parts of phrases in the parts and panning them left and right keeping my head interested, though I was disappointed at this being the short track on their page as it was the most interesting so far in my opinion despite doing less, with a pair of headphones on this was great.
I’m not 100% sure what to make of this band yet, though some of the things of their sight may make them seem a bit monotonous for some, I think this band could be good with a bit of work, I can’t help but wonder how this will transfer to the live stage, but I’m interested to see it for myself so I hope they come over to Glasgow soon. as I write this I’m listening to the extra tracks on their page which are in fact a lot better than “Indu” and “Breathe” maybe their track order is simply wrong, if you choose to put the older tracks first on your player? My suggestion is check these guys out and make your own decision.
