Fighterplanes
This band of unknowns (no seriously I haven´t a clue about any of their names) have loads of potential. Their sound is not too far from their name as it is a mass of thundering drums and wailing guitars, until suddenly all is quiet and beautiful harmonies fill the air (perhaps they are free falling at this point?).
The current playlist on their myspace is good considering this is only rough recordings Flight for Panda 1 has only a few missed moments (driving rock turning into old style "metal" scale progression thing? in their defence I would put that down to the track being roughly recorded without final edit) but overall the main drive and breakdown piece is brilliant.
Story Thing is a sample driven track that shows great versatility introducing an excellent looped voice-over, very well crafted.
Afterburner (another crackin song) doesn´t hold any punches pulling you by the throat from the onset and taking you on their musical ride. A great asset this band seem to posses is the way they seem to just take off and never touch back down, like on a never ending rollercoaster (well 5 mins+) with their eyes closed.
Verdict
I do feel as much as I enjoy the instrumental aspect that it would be good to have live vocals introduced into future tracks to add another dimension to their sound. Although saying that, vocals would definitely not fit on existing tracks as they stand very well on their own. Stellar stuff, as long as they keep evolving in the direction they are going these guys will be ones to watch...
