AnMusic4u
AnMusic4u is Alex Nimmo from Glasgow but don´t hold that against him. Singer/songwriter with an acoustic guitar and a decent effects pedal, not the whole package but some promising songs.
Track - What is it For
This song starts like a Damien Rice track with nothing more than a guitar strum or two. The voice comes in at the right level with an echo effect to provide the haunting sound, still not able to determine the quality of voice in this song. The lyrics are slightly repetitive and this track suffers from the lack of band or other instruments. Think OK Computer! without Thom Yorkes gammy eye.
Track - Sunray Immortal
Again not the best quality recording and the effects on the voice are beginning to grate on me slightly. Same tempo as the first track, different lyrics and slightly different chords but not different enough from the first track. Some slight variations in tempo and some feeling of the song going somewhere would add alot, slight attempt towards the end but without a bassline or drumbeat this is difficult to achieve, without just sounding like you´ve turned the volume up and no more.
Track - The Final Goodbye
Really poor quality start, fast forward to 1 minute in and the song starts properly. Touches of Dashboard Confessionals toward the end but again this track is let down by it´s one dimensional speed. With little or no variation in the background guitar resulting in nothing more than an adequate display of vocal talent, however heavily distorted. This track above the previous two does grow on you with the emotion of the content obvious to the listener, as he suggests capturing life through the eyes of people he seems to have aspects of this in here.
Track - Reborn
Needs some work on the guitar with a couple of noticeable mistakes at the beginning, the vocals sound crisper in this one and actually build very well to a cry of some emotion, however it´s quickly followed by a guitar interlude. Could do with better structure and would be a very decent track, in line with, if not better than, what´s on offer by James Morrison and the like.
Verdict
This guy is obviously talented and appears to have a decent voice, I´d like to see him live however I´m not sure I could realistically listen to his music on my MP3 player. Could do with getting together with some other musicians and starting a band or alternatively getting some better recording equipment and using some different instruments.
