Timebomb Soldiers

This four piece Edinburgh Indie band self described 'Soccer Trendy' look the part. Wouldn't look out of place on Saturday afternoon down Leith walk with can of tenants in hand. Their myspace page says We'll kick your head in, whilst their lyrical content says more Happy Mondays without the pills or blow. Number of gigs listed these guys are obviously well established in the scene without scoring a record deal...Yet

Going for the Kill - Timebomb Soldiers

Starts like an indie anthem guitars blazing and vocals kicking in with the rough sound of a 20 deck and a bottle of whiskey. Guitar is similar to Oasis with a stone roses baseline this tracks reeks of Madchester. Distinctive vocals gladly provide variation to this otherwise I would write it off as a straight lift off Oasis. Dodgy sudden ending needs a bit of work before release.

Amsterdam - Timebomb Soldiers

Fast pace urgency to this song, a real crowd starter would be great to pump up the tempo to any gig. Good drums provide a solid backing to a catchy guitar riff and some strong vocals. Nicely recorded would be great if they could pull it off live.

One Big Prize - Timebomb Soldiers

Change of pace with this slow acoustic which sounds more GnR Patience than Happy Mondays. Echo on the lyrics and bit of a pluck on the guitar strings makes this a very listenable track which has staying power. Chorus is strong and gives it a real slow rock appeal for those lazy days. Not a single release but definitely worth a listing on an album.

Verdict

Having lived in Manchester for 5 years of my life and seeing more Ian Brown look-alikes than I have hairs on my head I was hugely sceptical about the possibility that four guys from the Burgh would be able to convincingly pull off the swagger and attitude of the Heavyweights like Stone Roses and Oasis. I’m still yet to be convinced that they are the real deal however I have to say their music does have a nice sound to it and with the lyrical styling’s of Ryan Hush there is something slightly different about them. Definitely ones to watch out for and if you get the chance go Cab Vol on the 8th and catch these guys in action!
