The Remnant Kings

Self Penned - We started about 3 years ago, playing our 1st gig in a little pub in Penicuik, where we played a set of our own material plus a couple of covers (White Room by Cream and Dreaming of You by The Coral if memory serves me correctly). We have played over a hundred gigs in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Fife, and a couple of gigs in North of Scotland. We are about to play our 1st London gig at The Cavendish Arms, Stockwell on 3rd November plus another London gig at Water Rats in November. We love playing live and have built up a great following which we personally feel is down to our energetic, intense live performance. We will be available for gigs once we have taught our new bassist all songs. We are playing the Cowgate Festival at the Caves on 31st Oct before heading to London. We have recently played gigs with: Glasvegas, The Hedrons, The Law, The Rushes

Rush - The Remnant Kings

Nice drum and bass start to this with a guitar solo to begin in true rock fashion, not the tightest arrangement but once the lyrics kick it there is so much going on its like chorley fm "Coming in your ears". Not the strongest vocals but good use of the backing vocals to provide depth. Song improves as it moves along and sounds tighter towards the second half, perhaps this is due to the tempo slowing. A real jump around song that is hard hitting but with quality not your usual messy pish you hear.

Fallback Friend - The Remnant Kings

Starts with a kings of leon style and some whistling, yes no joke whistling, don't worry though not the straw chewing kind. Mixed vocals hear showing diversity, whilst recording isn't the best and probably doesn't do full justice to the song. This is surely to please those libertine fans out there and with some work on the recording this could be a very decent track, maybe improve the electronic effects and the use of the organ (which is a touch of beatles influence im sure).

More Than I could Tell - The Remnant Kings

Vocals a lot stronger in this track and slightly more downbeat than the other offerings. Slow paced indie rock with some nice guitar work cutting in half way through, makes you strum along and wish you had the skills, amazing stuff! The rest of the song continues in the same vein with the chorus getting catchy by the end which will make you go back and listen again and again to this one. Great ending to this track would be surprised if this wasn't their final track of a set aswell as it will leave the crowd with a decent memory of the talents of these guys and possibly even long enough to get a sing along going!

Verdict

Not too shabby at all. Surely one to go along and check out with the energy coming across well on recordings so imagine their live stuff will be even better. Not advocating anyone go to London (just in general really) but they are playing Espionage on November 28th and Festival at the caves on 31st October. Great pure rock offering with a bit of thought put into the lyrics giving them a definite edge on the pack.
