Polar Haze - Make it Stop

Nice Guitar and vocals on a very catchy wee tune. Well recorded, almost Paul Weller like in its Chorus displaying the vocal talent. Only downside is slightly repetative Drum and Guitar which could be better placed to have shifted gear midway through and really broken into a sweat. Nice use of backing vocals gives it a complete sound. Enjoyable listen and if a little bit of diversity was added in then this would definetly be a great song.

Polar Haze - I'm Falling

Love bands that claim they have wee bit of Madchester in them. Having formed the majority of my musical tastes living in Manchester for 5 years and experiencing clubs so full of Liam Gallacher clones you would have thought you were in a casting for 24 hour party people. This starts like a new wave electronica song but then has a rather 80's soft rock harmony around a minute it. Strangely reminds me of smashing pumpkins should finish on the 3minutes but has an extra minute of 'rocking out' which is hugely forgettable and not worth holding on for, perhaps they should open the song with this and build up a bit of tempo at the start. Amusing song which made me smile and even taped my foot once or twice.

Polar Haze - Set me Free

Quality needs working, vocals far to quiet at the start some very nice guitar work though. If you skip to 1minute 57 in the track and start there then its a hugely enjoyable track. The build up is understandable given the list of influences, however doesnt work as well as it should and without sharper vocals will suffer the fate of being instantly forgettable background music in a sleepy pub. By far the most enjoyable track on offer and something that could easily compliment your sundays spent listening to siamese dreams!

VERDICT

Not sure if music is the best way to judge someones personality but for writings sake lets presume it is. I would say these guys are nice guys who would like to have a bit of 'madchester' swagger. The music contains some great qualities and every song had a good part to it, the problem is perhaps the composition. Better arrangement and more methodical approach to each song would leave a more quality offering. Seems like there was perhaps too many ideas put forward that they 'stuck in' for the hell of it.
