Hand of Dog
Band made up from majority of previous band Superunknown, with the addition of a bassist. Lots of experience of live performances across Uk and Europe and have played recently in Glasgow’s Fury Murray’s. Latest album offering available only for a decent £6, includes 12 tracks
Something Caught Fire - Hand of Dog
Opens in Oasis style until the lyrics kick in around 30 seconds which whilst not the strongest have a good lyrical content that if you have the volume up loud enough really come through. As we go through this track it definitely picks up pace and the vocals get stronger building up the tempo and the guitar sounds like a classic Hendrix riff. Whilst slightly repetitive at times this track is a good starter for ten to decide whether this band is your cup of tea.
Goat Boy - Hand of Dog
Another heavily distorted guitar intro to this one like some classic rock theme, classic guitar wank stuff that would be great fun to play live. The drums and vocals come in just soon enough to round off a complete sound. Gives that sense of heard it somewhere before but that is possible given the amount of gigs these guys have done and the various influences they have pulled together. Again vocally reparative and shows that this could possibly be reduced in length or alternatively beefed up a bit with change in rhythm or a guitar solo.
Verdict
Whilst obvious these guys have a mass of experience listening to their music did little for me and would suggest they may have reached their level after 4 years at it. Obvious why gigging is the main route for these guys as they would come across well in the majority of live music pubs up and down the country. Not blow your socks off and slightly too safe making for a pub landlords delight. Sadly unoriginal given the make up and history of these musicians.
