Craig Hood
Experimental, Folk acoustic. This guy has a few tracks for sale through his myspace without much else being said about him.
Forest Light - Craig Hood
Simple guitar starts this song with lyrics kicking in with out much punch and not the greatest tune to them. This simplistic track has little to offer the listener and is a mood track which unless your heavily into child like haunting tunes. Guitar is sound enough and the quality of recording is not too bad but the vocals let this track down badly and is so monotone that my ears were begging for something with more variance.
Amethyst Lady - Craig Hood
Nice classical guitar creates a gentle sounding track to open things up. Vocals kick in with a hint of Simon and Garfunkel which are better set in this track than the previous. Once again I would have to point out this is mood music, as in have a few people round and have it chilling in the background or alternatively have a cigar and sip some brandy after a hard week. Bit of a shaky ending to this track which could do with improving if going to sell to people.
I Don't feel so good - Craig Hood
So this song rhymes with his name, that’s clever. This song is slightly different to the previous two, sounding not as well recorded but has more substance to it. The song actually comes across as a whole and is less like background music. One criticism is that it does sound almost like a Christmas Carol or nursery rhyme. Seems to be over quite quickly but at 3 minutes 30 seconds isn't a bad length.
Verdict
Not my cup of jack daniels but then I can see that there may be an audience for this in the coffee drinking book reading laptop working brigade I pass in starbucks. There is one thing that slightly annoys me about this though is that it does claim to be experimental and he suggests that he makes each song in a different way, however I wasn't really inspired or even once think that I was listening to something new or original. Possibly the other tracks available through purchase will show some different side however at 1.99 each I’d rather gamble on the 5 O'clock at Cheltenham.
