Bullet VI

This 5 piece band hailing from Edinburgh are currently working on an album which according to them should be available shortly. With three tracks up on their myspace and little else in the way of info I can't really say much more than the line up is; Andrew - Guitar, Iain - Drums, Ailsa - Vocals, Andrew - Vocals. Enjoy!

By My Side - Bullet VI

This comes off sounding like a reggae tune and the more you listen the more the great tune gets you swaying the vocals are good with a catchy chorus. The lyrical content to this sets it apart from the rest with great structure to the song making it sound really professional. Good use of effects creates a smoky jazz bar sound set off by some great vocals with a chorus that will stick in your head most of the day and some skills by Andrew in a freestyle around a minute in the best male vocals I've heard from an unsigned band fits perfectly with this sound. Only criticism would be that it is short and also on first listen you'll think Sting.

The Night Before - Bullet VI

Another example of a good baseline here, the quality of this recording is definitely not as good as the last one. The song tells a story and if you can get past the flute supported chorus there is some great musical talent on display. The song suffers from a very child like melody and I’m really not sure how it would come across live, at points I was desperate for the music to get edgier with a booming guitar riff or rougher vocals.

Sometimes - Bullet VI

Sometimes sounds unlike the other two and is kept bouncing along by a drum roll or two, the tempo is set from the off and it doesn't slow down, think a trotting horse. Sounds early 60'ish with Beatles laden music, unfortunately the vocals on this one again aren't recorded the best and don't add the power that they should to really command. Would be a good one for the start of a set to get the crowd engaged and once recorded properly, I’m sure the vocals would add a lot to it, with some good lyrical content performed well.

Verdict

Some nice original sounds and obvious talent displayed here, not least the great lyrical content and superb vocals on By My Side, which sets this band apart from the generic Indie rock band which every teenager this side of Watford aspires to be. Displays a maturity of sound which would usually be seen on a bar circuit veteran. Definitely one to keep an eye on with the release of an album or a live show a must to discover more than the teasingly short offerings available on their myspace.
