The Man You Know - Amy Duncan
Takes 8 seconds for this track to start I actually refreshed my player but be patient and you will be met by an angels voice set over lovely piano. Really emotionally charged lyrics here with a slight twinge of Scottish Accent which is no bad thing and adds to the unique sound she is trying to produce. The type of song you'd hear at the end of one of these American drama shows like Grey's Anatomy or Dawson's Creek.
Trust - Amy Duncan
Wow totally different type of song here, electronic like Annie Lennox with a metronome vocal over this slow build backbeat. After a minute and a half I was expecting a shift in tempo to build to an uplifting climax but it returns to a slow pace with some slight variations in the echo and different samples. Really cool sounding and definitely something you could happily chill to after a heavy night of whatever is your chosen vice. Love it around 3 minutes when a nice fat drum beat kicks in with some imagery provided by the samples that if you close your eyes you may well be on the side of a forest overlooking a tribe of Indians with Eagles flying over head.
Hanging on by a Strand - Amy Duncan
Guitar melody kicks us off here reminiscent of a James Morrison or Damien Rice, when the vocals kick in does get very folk like and the words are stretched out to fit in with the guitar tune. Some scary low vocals here that I’m not sure work very well. Nice effect to bring in the backing vocals as this song progresses but the song never changes and after I’m left wanting something different a kick ass hook line or even a memorable lyric I could sing along too and it all finishes rather abruptly like a planecrash.
Verdict
Obvious talent here, leaning toward the more electronica side of her music and think the track Trust is definitely worth a listen or two. Has an upcoming gig at Cab Voltaire on the 13th of October so if your not busy would be worth the short trip to see her perform this live.
