Already Naked
A Glasgow based alternative-rock band in the vein of Foo Fighters, Already Naked have been together since summer of 2006 and based on the tracks from their MySpace profile, have a good chance of getting noticed in the future.
Hide – Already Naked
Homage to Queens of the Stone Age, this track starts off with growling guitars leading into a surprisingly engaging track, with a nice hook. The only downside of the track are the slightly generic lyrics that recall Linkin Park, but this quibble aside, an excellent piece of music that wouldn’t be out of place in the charts. The band may actually be more commercial than they realise-certainly not a bad thing when the sound is as good as this.
Paradoxes – Already Naked
A fast-paced rocker with a great baseline, Paradoxes highlights another aspect of Already Naked. Well produced, the track is strong lyrically and sounds great at full volume, definitely one to get a crowd going. The track has a slight pop-edge, and is the most accessible of all their songs.
Take It All – Already Naked
This track is mellower and allows lead singer Gary Brownlow (I know, I thought it was Barlow when I read it first too…) to come to the fore. The song really picks up the pace after the first chorus and keeps you interested, although possibly slightly too long. Another great song, this could be a breakthrough track, and brings to mind later Foo Fighters material with some rough edges here and there to smooth out.
Hurricane – Track Review
Reminiscent of a rockier Ash, this track’s great chorus and middle eight is let down by verses that go nowhere. It also sounds very similar to Take It All which is disappointing, and even more so due to the fact that the band shows elsewhere they can produce more diverse sounds. On the upside, the vocals are strong and the lyrics display a more mature side of the band, suggesting they are progressing in the right direction.
Keep Your Secrets – Already Naked
A track that can’t decide where it’s going, this is definitely a song that requires more than one listen to unravel. Starting off at their quietest, a progressive build-up leads to the band hurling themselves into a shouty chorus. A real stomper, this track grows on you with a few changes of direction to keep you awake. Again the band showcases their ability to effectively vary their style to great effect. Sounds like an up-tempo Silverchair track-with more youthful vocals of course.
Verdict
A talented and smart group of musicians, I could see this band breaking out into the mainstream with some slight changes to production and lyrics.
